Advantage of the 1310 wide port on xWDM multiplexer

What is port 1310 used for on multiplexers?
The 1310 wide port (centered at +/- 50nm) allows the use of single-mode long range optics such as 25G-LR/ER, 40G-LR4/ER4, 100G-LR4/ER4/ZR4, etc… in addition to WDM wavelengths.
Pros : This makes it possible to pass a very high-speed link at a lower cost and while keeping the WDM architecture in place.
Cons :there is only one 1310 port per mux, so only one very high speed link is possible per dark fiber.
Below is the front of a Pureoptics DWDM 40CH mux with 1310 port and Upgrade port.

Port 1310 attenuation is 1.5dB max.
Port 1310 is also available on 8CH CWDM type muxes.

If you want to run multiple 100G or more links on your dark fiber, Pureoptics also offers so-called “active” solutions thanks to its partnership with Smartoptics.
