Advantage of the 1310 wide port on xWDM multiplexer
Port 1310 and xWDM multiplexer
The use of multimode fiber is very widespread because it allows the use of inexpensive lasers but poses problems as soon as the flow rates are too high (typically higher than 10G currently). Indeed, multi-mode fiber has a larger core size than single-mode fiber, it supports several propagation modes; the flow rate is therefore limited by the modal dispersion. If you do not want to use an MPO/MTP type connector and stay with duplex LC type connectors:
40G :
Pureoptics does not offer the equivalent of the QSFP-40G-SR-BD which makes it possible to reach 100M on OM3 multi-mode fiber and 150m on OM4 fiber. The alternative is the QSFP-40G-LX4-PO which makes it possible to reach 100M on OM3 multi-mode fiber and 150m on OM4 fiber but also 2km on single-mode. QSFP-40G-SR-BD and QSFP-40G-LX4-PO are not compatible, they must be used in pairs.
100G :
Pureoptics does not offer the equivalent of the QSFP-40/100-SRBD which makes it possible to reach 70M on OM3 multi-mode fiber and 100m on OM4 fiber. The alternative is the QSFP-100G-SR1.2-PO which can reach 70M over OM3 multi-mode fiber and 100m over OM4 fiber. It is also compatible with the future QSFP-DD-400G-SR4.2-PO.
